Austin, TX
Live music, breakfast tacos, and bats. In that order.
Austin has more live music per capita than anywhere in America, and most of it is free. Sixth Street has no cover charges before 9pm, Barton Springs is $5, and 1.5 million bats fly out from under the Congress Avenue Bridge every sunset from March to October. It's also 105 degrees in August, so plan accordingly.
Local tip
Congress Avenue Bridge bats: free, every sunset March through October. Stand on the south side of the bridge. The east side has the best view. Peak season is August — up to 1.5 million bats.
