Seattle, WA
Rain nine months. Best summer in America the other three.
Seattle's secret is that most of the best stuff is free or cheap. Free art museums, free concerts at the park, free boat rides at the Center for Wooden Boats, and Pike Place Market costs nothing to wander. When the sun comes out June through September, there's nowhere better.
Local tip
Center for Wooden Boats offers free public sails on Sundays. Real sailboats, on the lake, completely free. Show up early — spots go fast.
