Charleston, SC
Shrimp and grits are a religion. The battery at sunset is free church.
Charleston's historic district is one of the most beautiful in America and it's free to walk. The Battery promenade, Rainbow Row, and the cobblestone streets are all just there. The food — Lowcountry cuisine, shrimp and grits, she-crab soup — is a legitimate reason to fly here. The beaches are 20 minutes out. Walk the Battery at sunset, then cut up Church Street to Husk or FIG for dinner. That's the perfect Charleston evening and half of it costs nothing.
