River rapids in the middle of the city. Murals on everything else.
Richmond has Class III rapids running through downtown — you can whitewater raft in a state capital. The mural scene rivals any city in America, the food on Cary Street is excellent, and the history (complicated, honest) is everywhere. Belle Isle is a free urban island park with swimming holes. Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is always free and has Faberge eggs, Monets, and a sculpture garden. One of the best free museums in the South and most people outside Virginia have no idea.
