🆓 Free this weekend
Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail
Old Fourth Ward / Inman Park
Free 2.4-mile trail on a former railway connecting Piedmont Park to Krog Street Tunnel — murals, restaurants, and markets along the way. Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market are both right on the trail.
Fernbank Science Center
Druid Hills
Free exhibit hall with hands-on science, a replica Apollo capsule, and live animals. Planetarium shows $5-10. Separate from Fernbank Museum — most people don't know it exists.
Krog Street Market
Inman Park
1920s warehouse on the BeltLine with restaurants, a butcher, a bookstore. More local than Ponce City. Free to enter. Don't miss the Krog Street Tunnel next door — floor-to-ceiling graffiti.
Jimmy Carter Presidential Library Gardens
Druid Hills
The 35-acre grounds of the Carter Presidential Library feature Japanese-style gardens, a small lake, butterfly gardens, and wide walking paths — all free. Kids love the fish in the lake and the open green spaces for running. The museum inside ($15 adults, free under 16) has a full-scale Oval Office replica. An underrated free family outing that combines nature, history, and open space.
Piedmont Park
Midtown
189 free acres in Midtown with skyline views, a Saturday farmers market, a dog park, and direct BeltLine access. Morning run, afternoon picnic, or Saturday market — it all works here.
Doll's Head Trail
South Atlanta
A 1.4-mile trail through Constitution Lakes Park lined with outsider art — doll heads, car parts, broken toys, and found objects arranged by visitors over the years. It's weird, it's free, and it's one of the most uniquely Atlanta things you can do. The wetlands and old brick ruins add to the atmosphere. Bring bug spray.
🌳 Get outside
Blue Heron Nature Preserve
Buckhead
A free 30-acre urban nature preserve in Buckhead along the banks of Peachtree Creek with easy walking trails through hardwood forest, wetlands, and meadows. Regular family programs include nature scavenger hunts, bird walks, and seasonal events. The preserve hosts a popular free outdoor concert series in spring and fall. A peaceful break from the city just minutes from the Buckhead commercial district.
